Aspartokinase-Homoserine Dehydrogenase II

Background:

A second bifunctional enzyme, aspartokinase-homoserine dehydrogenase II (AK- HSD II) also catalyzes the first and third reactions in the aspartic acid pathway of amino acid biosynthesis. This enzyme is not subject to feedback inhibition by any of the end product amino acids, but its synthesis is regulated at the level of gene expression by the concentrations of methionine. While AK-HSD II appears to be structurally and mechanistically similar to AK- HSD I, there have been few details studies of this bifunctional enzyme.
